Just broke the site. Now it starts to get interesting.
Fixed the site, Wasnt as bad as i thought.
Had a look at the error reports. I think i can fix most of the validation errors. Dooes anyone know why I should have so many CSS issues when I am using off the shelf themes? And just how serious are these issues?
New to this but trying to educate myself as much as i can and very keen to learn.
Many themes use browser-specific CSS and, in most cases, they don’t do any harm. so you can safely ignore all of the errors relating to box-shadow and border-radius. The one that bothers me is right at the end:
Unrecognized link element or xml-stylesheet PI.
Been messing around with chat software. Was trying livechat for wordpress plugin and I thought it was amazing but there are monthly charges. Just replaced that with livezilla which is also amazing. You can track visitors live, you can invite them to chat. they can chat with you if they want. And with livezilla its free.
I am wondering if these links are what the unrecognised link elements are?
Try deactivating Livezilla and re-checking the CSS.
Deactivated livezilla no effect – then I deactivated all the plugins one by one and still the same error message.
Checked some of my other sites and getting the same error on some of them.
I’ll need to find out whats causing it
Have you tried switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?
Okay spent a bit of time on this. I have 10 sites and of these 10 sites 9 are showing up the same error and 1 isn’t. I noticed the error was on the home page of the affected sites.
The affected sites are not all using weaver or 2010.
I looked at the page source of each of the home pages and on every occasion the line where the error is showing is blank.
So its a blank line thats showing up as a CSS error.
My instinct tells me I have nothing to worry about, but being new to this I don’t know if I have or not.
If anyone can reassure me that this is the case I would be most grateful.
It couldbe a symptom of an issue that could turn into a show stopper. What are you using to create/edit your stylesheets?
Never touched the stylesheets in any of my sites. All the work I have done to create my sites is simply carried out within the confines of the wordpress admin sections.
Are you copying code or markup in from elsewhere (ie another application)?
No, I dont think so. I have got into the habit of copying anything like that into notepad before copying and pasting into my sites. I read somewhere that was good practice and prevents a lot of dodgy code.
Yes – it does.
Are you running any caching plugins?
