• I have or had a custom WP blog. I believe I usually pay in early March. The host didn’t contact me. This morning it wasn’t formatted–I submitted a trouble ticket–haven’t heard. Then it became a WP.org blog. Now I get this messageError establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support

I would like to believe that the host company is having problems but there’s no message on their site–and though they answer trouble tickets at my email address they insist my email is my dot com–though I changed it in the cpanel and have sent them several trouble tickets with the proper email

I’m a long way from home and won’t be home for several months. The back up is on my desktop

This blog represents several years worth of work for me and serves as a resume. It does get me paid work and much exposure

    This is a nightmare.

  • The good news is that your data may still be existent, though the WordPress software is having a problem connecting to it. Unless that is, your hosting company was really irresponsible and deleted your database. It’s hard to tell without being able to look. Did you set up the software yourself? There is a wp-config.php file in your blog’s root folder that contains database parameters (host, userid, pass for database connection). Either those values are incorrect, or the values are correct and the database server is down/changed/etc. Either the support staff at your hosting company will need to look at the issue, or you will need to have someone familiar with WordPress look into it. If you cannot figure it out, and you need further help, let me know how I can contact you via email and I can prob help. Good luck.
