• Hello, I am a little confused. I have created a new MY SQL database for WordPress. I have modified wp-config.php as instructed. I have transferred the files (contained in a folder named “wordpress”) into the top level of my domain.

The instructions say (as I interpret), to access the installation program, I go to:

    http://yourhomeincome.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

However, I just get a screen saying that page doesn’t exist, because typing the “http://” apparently tells the browser to go to the /html directory, which is where all the site pages are stored. I am guessing I have to move the “wordpress” folder to my /html directory, but I see nothing in the instructions indicating that, and I want to be sure.

I use aplus.net as host, if that means anything.

    Thanks, Eldon

  • If you’ve put the files in http://yourdomain.com , just try loading that, chances are it’ll tell you the site hasn’t been installed and will take you through the install process

Do you mean, just go to my site home page in my browser? That doesn’t do anything, I suspect you mean something else that I am not understanding….

    Back up a step.

Where did you put the wordpress files?
In particular, where are they in relationship to the directory containing your current home page?

When I first log in to my File Manager, I see the following folders. My home page is in the html folder along with all my other web pages.

    cgi-bin 12-26-2004 05:09:45 pm 771
    html 08-03-2006 08:10:32 pm 771

I have transferred the files (contained in a folder named “wordpress”) into the top level of my domain.

So the question is this: did you upload the wordpress folder as it is OR only its content? In other words: do you have a “wordpress” folder on your host server, too?

Reposting this for clarity – these are the six top level directories I see. Home page is in html directory.

It should be in the html – and if you want it to be at the “top level” of your site, then only the content of the wordpress folder should be uploadad.
As a general rule: never upload anything OUTSIDE your html folder!

ah, yes. Continuing what Moshu said: If you want “yourdomain.com/wordpress”, then move that wordpress folder under the html directory.

Thanks to all, looks like I got a successful installation and setup!

Good to hear that. Then please, mark this thread as resolved. Thank you.
