Multisite Discovery
-
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to express, my gratitude for all the wonderful members of this forum who have helped me so much in the past.
I installed one of the early versions of WP multiuser; my ISP had trouble with wildcard in Apache. So I did it as a subdirectory site. I should’ve stopped right there when I couldn’t get any of the XML site maps to work. After all, if you can’t make a site map nobody’s going to be able to index the site.
We all get smarter as we get older …I hope. That site had six subdirectory sites and I used child themes, which allowed me to make each sub sites a different color and customize its appearance and structure.
But for the last 6 months, I’ve been using a very flexible team that eliminates child themes. Designed for Multisites, each one is completely independent with no additional programming tricks. You can check it out at http://flexsqueeze.com . You’ll find it has lots of other goodies also, squeeze pages; it will build your Facebook page, mobile templates etc.
If anything that’s it’s fault that has so many options that, it takes a long time to learn. Oh, By the Way it does all this with zero programming.
If you’re new to WordPress or multisite, there is a free book at http://wpebooks.com/ebooks . This site belongs to Andrea Renick and her husband. While you’re there is a great article on when not to use multisite. I also bought five other e-books for the wealth of content on not only how to design and construct your multiuser site, but how to operate it. This along with all the free plug-ins and big picture overview has completely changed the way I view multisite.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for the fantastic support that everyone associated with the WordPress provided me, as I was getting up to speed. In addition, share with you these resources, which have changed my operation substantially.
Have a great Thanksgiving.
Ron
