Multiple independent user pages…plugin?

I am seeking a plugin that will help me take the basic wordpress idea into a magazine idea. I have seen this for joomla but I really dislike the learning curve on that CMS. I would like to have multiple users each control their own static pages. in each static page would be a blog that they control and comments etc. In essence I am looking to make wordpress almost like myspace in terms of functionality but not the level of size..if you think of multiple independent users all under 1 single main page with a common contact form and perhaps gallery but having their own blogs in their own static pages that they can control
