• My site is set up to have three administrators. I am an administrator myself, but when I log on as myself, I cannot publish or update a post or page. When I do so, the tab that says “proofread” becomes red and says “edit text”. If I click that “edit text” nothing happens. However, the content is being saved for these posts or pages. I am listed as an administrator under the users. If I log in as a different administrator, I can publish my own work which had been previously saved. But, I must be logged in as another administrator. This does not appear to be a browser issue as I can make this work with other admins. I also can publish just fine on another blog. All of this came about shortly after upgrading to 3.8.1 about a week ago. However, I was able to update and publish for three days after the upgrade, before encountering this issue. Any suggestions?

  • Have you tried using another browser? Or deleting your cookies?

The problem is not related to the browser, as I stated above. The issue is consistent across multiple browsers and computers. It is a WordPress issue. I’m wondering if I’m missing some sort of setting. But, the only thing I can think of is to make sure I am a registered administrator, which I am.

It is not a core WP issue as you are the only person experiencing this problem.

^Woah there. Just trying to get some help. The issue lies in WP somewhere, although I also said that I could be missing a setting within the system somehow.

I tried reinstalling WordPress. This did not help either. This issue is really perplexing me. Any more ideas?

The issue lies somewhere in your setup – not in WordPress generally. Just look around these forums. WordPress 3.8.1 has been download over 24 million times. Do you see thousands (or even hundreds) of users reporting the same problem? Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

@walkerba2: I am having the same problem actually – so you are not alone. I haven’t really updated my sites plugins or anything recently – so i don’t think it is that, but maybe!

Anyway. I figured out a work around for the time being until maybe the plugin that is causing it (if it is a plugin) will get updated to fix the issue.

So create a new page, put your content in as need be, and then instead of hitting publish or update click save draft. Then go back to the list of pages and click quick edit for the page and than change the status from draft to published and click update. That’s it 🙂
