Moving wordpress site to main directory (2 posts)

I am building a new site for a client through wordpress using a theme from themeforest. Their old site does not use wordpress. Since I wanted to keep the old site running and untouched while building the new site, we installed wordpress and have built the new site on a folder within the domain. The main domain is comcoil.com. WordPress/the new site is on comcoil.com/test/wordpress.

We are getting close to done with the site, and will soon need to move the site from comcoil.com/test/wordpress to comcoil.com. I am wondering what the best way to do this is, as well as how this move with affect inbound links and images, since all the inbound links read "comcoil.com/test/wordpress/..." but we will need them to just be "comcoil.com/..."

    So, 3 basic questions:
    1) What is the best way to make this move when it is time?
    2) What is the best way to be doing inbound links so that they aren't affected in the move/will we have to manually change every link in the move?
    3) What is the best way to put images on the site? If I am using the wordpress uploader and the links generated by wordpress (which I plan to change for SEO purposes anyway), will those images be lost when we move to the root domain?

Trying to anticipate as best as possible what problems we could encounter and make this transition as easy as possible...thanks!

    Did you checkout Moving_WordPress?

For the first part of the question... The answer is "you can redirect old links via .htaccess rewrites". I could not understand your second part of the question.

What is the best way to put images on the site? If I am using the wordpress uploader and the links generated by wordpress (which I plan to change for SEO purposes anyway), will those images be lost when we move to the root domain?

Couldn't understand this question either. The best way to put images on the site is via "WordPress uploader". If done correctly as described in Moving_WordPress, none of the images would be lost, if they are uploaded using the WordPress uploader and the links are generated by WordPress.

If you don't mind spending a few dollars, then I'd recommend buying a new cheap domain (mediatemple still offers $4 domains) and try to do everything on the new domain, before doing the move on the primary domain. It's the best way to find out the issues that may arise while moving WordPress.
