Moving WordPress core files

    Hi everyone,

    I’m just about done working on a website that is currently located in a subdirectory (http://mysite.com/wordpress). Currently I have a Joomla site installed in the root directory.

    I am going to use the instructions on this page — http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory — in particular ‘Using a pre-existing subdirectory install’ to move the site.

    My question is, I don’t want to delete the files already there just yet in case I screw things up. Currently there’s already an index.php file at the root directory.

    Would you suggest I copy this file to my desktop in case I need to transfer it back, delete it on the server, and THEN copy the index.php and other core files?

    Hi again,

    Quick followup question. I made the move. Initially ran into an issue because I changed the Website Address AND the Site Address in Settings > General from mysite.com/wordpress to mysite.com and I was not able to access my admin area.

    Was able to fix this by changing site url in wp_options in phpMyAdmin back to mysite.com/wordpress.

    However, the front-end of the site seems OK, but the back-end is going sooooo slow.

    Any ideas what may be causing this?

    Please disregard. I just ended up moving all files to the root and changing the site url in wp_options in phpMyAdmin back to mysite.com and that fix whatever issues I was having with the speed.
