• I’d appreciate some guidance as I take tentative first steps in wordpress. I’m trying to customise a twenty ten theme into a news-type theme and in the posts section under what will be a featured posts carousel, I don’t want to have posts running one on top of each other in a traditional blog format, but side by side, i.e. in two columns.

    How do I go about changing my twenty ten child theme accordingly? I can’t figure it out. I can’t find any reference to changing columns.

    To illustrate: I want, ultimately, to get to something like the cover-wp theme.

    This has three levels:

    1. Main piece – which I want to change into a features carousel;
    2. Posts in two columns, three in each; and
    3. Back to single column for latest news.

    Thanks for any advice and help. This is harder than I thought.

    Thanks. I tried it, but it didn’t work. Any other suggestions? Anyone else?

    There are tons of ‘news’ themes already out there, why reinvent the wheel?

    I’ve pretty much come to the same conclusion. It’s just that I’m completely new to wordpress and I’m following the Lynda.com course and the tutor’s take was that you start with twenty-ten and you can do whatever you like to it – including playing with its columns. Besides, there are some good features on twenty ten that I wanted to keep and would have lost had I gone with one of the news themes out there; but I’m going to do this now. Oh, and I thought changing columns might not be that convoluted, but it seems it is, particularly for someone not familiar with wordpress and so on.
