Modify Permalinks to Categories

    Hi,
    I am developing a site in arabic. When I put the categories list in the sidebar wordpress uses url’s like http://sintename/categoory_name. My categories are in atrabic and I do not with the urls to conatin arabic. Is it possible to give the categories english names and use them in the links?
    I think I can do it with apache mod_rewrite but would like to know id there is a wordpress solution.
