Modal post from blog page

My theme lists all my posts on the home page in the form of the featured image. I want to make it so that when I click the image the post pops up. I tried adding the “modal-link” class to the content.php file where the link is generated. It tries to load in a modal, but then just gives me a blank screen. Is what I’m trying possible?
