In case anyones confused, the WordPress Mobile Plugin is not only for WP1.2, it works in the 1.5 series, and the 2 series too.
I’ve tried Alex King’s WordPress Mobile Edition and it works as promised: “A PDA friendly interface for your blog. It’s (almost) XHTML compliant.”
It does a good job of stripping out most layout and displays only one post per page.
The only problem I have with his Mobile Edition is that you can no longer administer your blog via a mobile device (e.g. you can’t get to /wp-admin/).
I’m a Treo 650 user and often find myself approving comments and writing posts via my cell phone. With Alex King’s WordPress Mobile Edition plugin, I could no longer do so.
