Fixed it using .po and .mo files from glotpress.
Moderators, you can delete this topic, or leave it if you thinks others may benefit from it…

I actually used the translation from wordpress.com which seems a bit more complete:

I also translated most of the missing Hebrew entries there myself, but they’re in ‘waiting’ status. Do you have any idea who I can contact to request validation? and how to contact them? There are still a few places where untranslated text appears in my site, and the .po file only gives me the validated strings…

I actually added Hebrew translations for almost all of the strings in the wordpress.org version as well. Would be great if you had that validated too!
I’m not sure how to get the .org GlotPress strings validated but I’ve asked for you in the #polyglots channel in the WordPress.org Slack! I’ll keep you posted here.
One of the folks from the WordPress.org Polyglots team gave me this information for you:
One of the general translation editors can validate them, see https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/?locale=he_IL
Or: The translator can be added as a project translation editor, see https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/rosetta/theme-plugin-directories/#translating-themes-plugins
That should point you in the right direction!
Your translations on WordPress.com’s GlotPress have been approved, so you can generate a new .mo file for your site if you like:
