Plugin conflict can disable Visual Editor in Write panels. Disable plugins and activate one by one, delete cache and clear cookies each time and check your Write panel.

I notice when i got to write post or page
i get the following error at the buttom of my page

    line:37
    char: 95185
    Error: Object expected
    Code:0
    URL: http://www.gabsworld.com/wp-admin/post-new-php

    and clues??

Same problem here – I think there’s a serious bug in 2.6.5. I updated to it this morning, and I don’t have access to the visual editor toolbar. I’ve disabled all plugins (I only had four anyway), cleared by browser cache, exited the browser, done a hard refresh, etc.

I’m thinking this is indicative of a deeper problem – the emoticons aren’t displaying on my blog entries:

Notice the broken wink. The path to that wink is as follows:

    http://www.jasondunn.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

That gives an error about the page not being found. I’ve double-checked the path and it’s correct – that is where the image is on my server. I can download the GIF and it looks fine.

Some further information. When I log into my WP admin panel using IE7, I see the following error:

    Line: 32
    Char: 1
    Error: Object expected
    Code: 0
    URL: http://www.jasondunn.com/wp-admin

When I go to the new post interface, I get this error:

    Line: 3
    Char: 1
    Error: ‘jQuery’ is undefined
    Code: 0
    URL: http://www.jasondunn.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

I’ve done a complete deletion and re-upload of everything TWICE now, same results. Something is very strange here…I’m rolling back to 2.6.3 until someone figures this out.

Problem solved. Playing a hunch, I tried doing the install from my laptop, which has FileZilla 3.1.5 installed rather than FileZilla 3.1.5.1 that my deskotp had installed. I repeated the identical procedure (delete, then upload), and now everything seems to be working OK. So it seems that something with FileZilla is to blame here…which is rather curious.

I tried using FileZilla 3.1.5 instead of ver 3.5.1 because reinstalling multiple times using FileZilla 3.5.1 wasn’t solving the problems I had with my WordPress. Now it works perfectly fine.. which is strange, but I’m glad it works at least. I’ll be sticking to 3.1.5 for a while. Thank you jasondunn!
In case anyone has the same problems I did, here was what was wrong with mine:
    1) dashboard sections Incoming Links, WordPress Development Blog, and Plugins sections don’t load
    2) visual tools looked exactly like how they would in html

yes, that works, good for me.. i uploaded with cuteftp and it works fine

    thanks alote

I just downloaded the newest version of WordPress and had the same problem. I was doing research on it and noticed there were a few posts in the Forum about problems hosting on 1and1.com as well. I was able to resolve the issue of the visual tools by doing 2 things.

1and1.com uses PHP 4 and I was told that WordPress needs PHP 5.
    2 solutions fixed this problem.

    1) I created an .htaccess file which was downloaded to the root directory. All it contains it this:
    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

2)I had used Filezila to download the WP files and had several error messages and was researching 1and1.com because I had similar problems with another CMS program I had tried to use.

I reinstalled the files with SmartFTP and everything is now working fine.
