From what you have said, if you set 5 posts, WP will just grab 5 posts and not worry about what cat they come from.
As for seeing other posts – do you have a cat list in the sidebar ? Or list the cat of a post next to the post ?

I want to show 5 posts on my index page and let’s say 100 posts on category pages, but if I set ‘show at most’ to be 5 it applies to all pages.
I’m having the same issue…I just upgraded to 1.5.
This was not an issue with 1.2…

you said you fixed the polling feature in wordpress? could you email how you did it to me at idealflaw@gmail.com ? I don’t know what needs slight modification, but i’m like you—using 1.5 and the program was written for 1.2… i don’t know what to modify..
