I have a website installed on BTConnect which I am still developing. It was working fine but now when I try selecting different pages from my menu it keeps telling the page can’t be found. If I republish the page it will come back again. The main page will come up fine and I can select any other page and it appears to work OK but if I then try to select another page ( even the page I am on it will tell me it can’t be found.
This is not a problem with my PC as it fails from a mobile as well. Any body else experienced this sort of thing. Is it my supplier, is it wordpress, is it a virus where do I start?

You might have an issue with the .htaccess file. Download a copy of it to your PC and delete the file. You can chose your permalinks again to generate a new .htaccess.

You also may want to contact your host. They can see your account. Something we can not do.

I can’t contact my supplier till tomorrow but I have finally managed to download my .htaccess file (Very new to this).

    This is all it contained.

    DirectoryIndex index.php index.htm index.html
    # BEGIN WordPress

    # END WordPress

What would you expect to see there?

What you have in the .htaccess file is not causing issues. Would you include a link to your site?

Something bizarre is happening there.. various pages just stop transmitting.. the source just stops mid-stream.

The main page comes up as a blank grey screen after I visit the first time. If I delete the site’s cookie in the browser, then the main page will show again.

    Strange…

I’m sure it will be a red herring but just in case it’s not the last thing I did whilst it was still running successfully was to go to google+ and take ownership of the site there which promoted my site to the top of the list when searcging steeple claydon post office.

Well, I don’t get file not found errors but the site is certainly working funky. Can you login to WordPress Dashboard?

Assuming you can login, start by switching to a default theme. Anything you have loaded is fine. If you don’t have an extra theme already loaded, then add one like Twenty Fifteen.

Once you have a different theme, try your various pages.

I could but when I try now I just get the message

You are now logged out of BT Website Centre, please close this window.

I will try and contact them tomorrow and then let you know. Thanks for the effort so far.

Disable all of your plugins and leave twenty fifteen as the active theme.

OK, it looks like 2015 is not freezing up now. Leave all your plugins disabled and make your first theme active.

Assuming your original theme works, start turning on plugins until you the theme stops working correctly.

Don’t know what happened but I didn’t do the step disable all my plugins and leave Twenty Fifteen as the active theme. Seeing your second message I just went back to the Vantage theme and everything is working OK. Thanks again for your effort and patience if you have no further comments to make I will mark this thread resolved.
