A few questions upfront…
1. are you using Cloudflare through your host?
2. Overall, I am guessing you want to speed up your site?
Might want to look into plugins such as Autoptimize
Minifying CSS and JS files is a good start.
Thanks for your quick response bloggingthemes.
1) I am using CloudFare plan free website. My host is bluehost
2) Yes i am trying to improve my web speed. I used W3 Total Cache, Disable Emoji & Optimize Database after “Deleting Revisions so far. It has improved the performance. Waiting for Remove Query Strings From Static Resources” to test up to WP 4.8.2 before I will use it.
I read that minifying CSS & JS has a risk. And if something goes wrong, I might not be able to fix it. Most of the things identified that can be minified are twenty seventeen resources. That is why I would like to know if if anyone has any adverse experience in twenty seventeen after minifying with CloudFare. Or how many milli seconds would it save so that i can decide if its worth taking that risk.
No worries….and yes, you are correct that sometimes minifying some CSS and JS can cause some issues, but this is one of those things you just have to try out one item at a time and test your site, if all is good, do the next file, and so on. Usually it will be a JS problem more than CSS.
I’ve done a minify of Twenty Seventeen CSS and Js without problems on a test site a couple months ago. It’s more of how well will third party plugins cooperate if their scripts are minified — and especially combined into a single file (if you go that route).
Right now for the last few days I’ve been doing little enhancements with my blogging themes website with my host where I am using Cloudflare. So far so good.
Still check out that plugin I mentioned.
One recommendation though, as you do things, make a website backup each time you are about to make a change. Always good to play it safe incase anything went wrong.
Cheers,
Andre
