Migrate or import existing MYSQL PHP

    Now that I have WordPress installed and running, for the purpose of upgrading an entire php driven web site, I would like to know if it is possible to import MySQL tables from another location into WordPress, using existing tables and pages that have been previously written in php?

    Is there a way to import existing MySQL into WordPress that use different login credentials? Would save me a lot of work for the purpose of migrating a client to the WordPress content management system. Thanks in advance for any reference links or material.
