Merge wordpress database with non wordpress database

    Hi,
    I’ve created a mysql database with 10 tables. At the moment, my local installation of wordpress is accessing this database with no problems.

    My question is, is it best to keep my wordpress database separate from my other database, or is it better to import my other database tables into my wordpress database.
    I’d like to merge both databases but I’m not sure if it is a good idea or not.
    Any thoughts or recommendations?
