Menu width and footer

Is there a way to make the menu wider on a desktop? It’s responsive and drops down to a single column on smaller screens but it’s right aligned on large screens and doesn’t fill the whole content area. Also the footer ends up at the bottom of the right column instead of across the entire bottom. Is this an issue with my theme?
