media upload error

All of a sudden I can’t load new media. I am getting the error message “The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2014/10.”

I looked in the directory to try to change the file to 777 but never saw an appropriate folder. Things were fine before the 4.0 upgrade. Please help.
