The common point, it seems is your HostGator server 🙂
If you do find out what exactly is causing this, we’ll be happy to hear back 🙂
Good luck!
Give me a break, Jon. There is another thread complaining about the same issue for 4.4.2: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/media-library-wont-load-display-images?replies=20
This same issue happened in 4.4 and 4.4.1 was supposed to fix it.
I am running 4.4.2 a local enviro and am having the same problems. No console errors.
It’s WordPress.
I fixed my issue (in wordpress).
I’m running a child theme and somehow erased everything in functions.php except <?.
I fixed it to <?php and now it works.
I read on another thread that a trailing space in a user’s functions.php cause his issue, so check there.
I am happy you fixed it. But the link you listed is a totally different issue and the only thing that have in common is the Media Library.
That’s like saying the two cars are both broken with the same problem and the common point is that they have wheels.
Lastly, please do start your own topic in the future so that the topic doesn’t get derailed from other discussions.
Cheers!
Jon,
I welcome the input from others. Very elitist of you to simply try to dominate over an issue with someone like myself who has limited understanding of the back end of WordPress issues. Not cool to dis-spell the potential light shedding of others who have experienced similar issues.
I am losing money on this problem now, it is beyond a joke. I’ve had people asking me why my store feature isn’t working as they have been trying to make purchases of my imagery etc. HostGator do not option for coding checks unless, surprisingly, I pay additional service costs.
Cheers!
@nicoleamurray Jon suggested opening a new topic, as the description of your issue is not related to what’s being discussed here (besides “something something Media Library”). He suggested it in good faith, as you’ll be get exposure for your own issue in your own threads, rather than in the middle of someone else’s mostly unrelated thread.
@seawildearth If it were a WordPress problem, I suspect there would be about 33 million other reports of it, not just this 1: https://wordpress.org/download/counter/ so let’s just get that out of the way now. When we say things like that, it’s not that we’re trying to get rid of you. On the contrary, we want to direct you to the solution as quickly as possible. As you say, you are “losing money” on this.
So, what I’d suggest is as follows:
Try deactivating *all* plugins (yes, all of them). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.
If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
If neither of those make any difference, contact Hostgator and let them know that evidence points to GD Graphics Library and Imagick being misconfigured or missing on your server, and please feel free to give them the URL of this thread to show that you have contacted us, and that we have suggested that it’s a server configuration issue.
Hi James, thanks for the input.
Have you read through the complete thread? As if you had though read through the full details you’d have also seen that I have carried out the tasks as you mentioned, plugin deactivation combined with a revert to the default Theme. The issue remains.
Everything was working fine, from one day to the next and then in one foul swoop, and with no changes having been made to the administrative back end by myself I found myself in this mess. I am using the Theme and current PlugIns for selling imagery and as such some of the files I have are very large, up to 5760 x 3840px but I use a 1024 x 683px web prepared jpeg featured image for their representation on the site. These featured images are no greater than 200Kb/ea Some of the master files are over 15MB which still shouldn’t be an issue as these are the images that are sent to the clients after an automated checkout has been made via PayPal. It is a system that has worked with real clients in real time. All media resolutions are set as they should be on WP.
I will pass on this thread URL to my Host Servers Tech Support and see what they have to say.
Thanks,
Mark.

I did, but I wanted to make sure to restate the importance of *all* plugins and switching the theme. If I had just $10 for every time someone interpreted “all plugins” as “just a few of the plugins,” I’d retire rich and early. 😉

Please keep in mind that server configurations change constantly without announcement, sometimes several times in a day. That’s all up to the hosting provider.
Elitism running rampant here. I found this thread while looking for a solution to my own problems with media library. I posted to reassure seawildearth he is not the only person on wordpress to have issues.
seawild are you using a special media library/uploader plugin or the default WP interface?
try his as well:
- Enable WP_DEBUG
- In Google Chrome while in uploads.php, open Chrome’s DevTools by right-clicking “Inspect Element” anywhere on the page
- Switch to “Network” tab and set filter to “XHR”
- Reload page
- Select admin-ajax.php and switch to the Response tab
paste what you got here.
Elitism running rampant here.
@nicoleamurray So, you might have mistook the polite tone of my reply for something else, somehow. I’m sorry.
Anyway, you’re more than welcome to try to work out your problem with @seawildearth here, we just wanted to express that we felt it would be more beneficial for you to handle your separate issue in a separate thread.
We simply want what’s best for you in this situation, but I can understand if you disagree.
I have the same issue hostgator too… I’m digging into various reply to find what is the issue. Will probably reinstall wordpress on my own instead of the installer host gator provided.
