    Hello.

My traffic has drastically decreased in past months.
I just found your article “Media / attachment URL: what to do with them?”
Yes attachment URL was set to “no”!! I made it “Yes” & installed your purging plugin.
Before this, the search link was landing to a image page on my site (usual attachment page). Now it is redirecting me out of the site & directly on the image in black screen. Just like the way if you try to open an wordpress image using the hot/direct link.

Isn’t it suppose to redirect the attachment to the post where that image is actually attached to?

I’m really confused here! plz help.

  • This is to be expected as you have set enabled the media (attachment) redirect. If you have installed the purge plugin too, then all the media (attachment) URLs will show 410 in the HTTP header response and you can see the direct image if you visit any of the media (attachment) URLs.

How do I set this up so that google can index the image & if someone click on that they’ll come to the post where I’ve used that image not in the image file?

Unfortunately, this is no longer possible as Yoast SEO now redirects media files to the media files and not to the posts or pages where the media files are attached to.

So. what is your recommended best practice now?
Set “Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself?” to “YES” or “NO”?
