I have our permalinks in settings set to “post-name”

This works fine for the pages. For some reason our posts are all showing the site URL twice then “post-name”.

    For example: http://www.example.com/http://www.example.com/post-name

So, none of the posts work, it says “you’re looking for something that cannot be found”

There is no way to edit the permalinks in the post editor, and I can see that the permalink is not set properly on each individual post.

If I switch back to default the posts work, but then all the pages are broken because they link to each other.

Any help is HIGHLY appreciated. I have no idea how this happened or how to fix it without redoing all the pages and having ugly URL’s.

  • There is no post-name permalink structure tag. Review Using_Permalinks.

I’m confused by your response, from the link you provided:

    http://example.com/year/post-name/”

This is exactly what I’m using, except without “year” in there.

Please read the whole page and make a careful note of the available structure tags.

Ok, I think what you’re saying is that I need to remove the URL from the permalink area just have it say %postname%

However, I have 4 other sites that have this exact setting “hrrp://example.com/post-name” and they all work fine, both pages and posts. This page (which is with Cirtex instead of GoDaddy) was working fine at one point. Now only the posts have a problem.

Using the %postname% without the URL seems to have things working, but I’m baffled as to why this would have worked just fine in the past (and continued to work fine with 4 other websites) then suddently stops working just for posts, and just for one site that’s on a different host…

Either way, thanks for your quick reply and making me take “careful note”

    Yes! 🙂

Why your other sites work OK is beyond me. That’s not how the permalinks are supposed to work. You basically tell WP the “types” of of permalinks that you want and it does all of the magic. It doesn’t need (or want) to have your site url in the permalink structure field. It already knows your site url and it auto-creates the final permalink from that and your structure (think templating) tags.

Does that make some sense now?

Definitely makes sense, thanks so much for your help!
