Does the Maintenance Mode plugin just not work with the 2.5.1 version? I’ve installed it and it saves the options and all but it goes to the site instead of a maintenance page. Anyone have any ideas?

  • umm, logout and then go to your site and you will see the maintenance page.

Ohhhhhhhh. I’m a moron! Heh. Well, in that case it won’t work for what I wanted then because I wanted to be able to post posts and work on the design and whatnot until I’m ready to open the site. Sigh.

what was it supposed to display while you do that? another theme?

if so, you might want one of those user-level theme switchers, and just give yourself access to the theme you’re editing, while the rest of your visitors get something else.

It displays a “down for maintinance” splash screen. I’m not just working on a theme but a whole website with sections other than the blog and I’m incorporating those non WP pages into the Worpress theme via <?php require('.../wp-blog-header.php'); ?>. It goes to white screens sometimes because I don’t have the index.php uploaded (have a blank html in it’s place for now) so it won’t show the site til I’m ready which makes editing a tich hard, heh.

*nods* … I tend to use htaccess to put up a password prompt, that way it works for you, but everyone else gets the login box (and a big f*ck off sign if they try their luck)

I’m not professional enough to do my development offline. Good thing I’m only doing it for myself, I’d hate to think how someone would react if they hired me 😛

I’d LOVE to do web design for a living but I don’t know how that would work out. I’m very good at what I do but I taught myself everything I know and probably use unconventional methods. Plus I’m really finicky. I like my code to be as neat and minimal as possible to get whatever I want accomplished. So I think the same as you… good thing I’m only doing it for myself 😀
