I feel hopeless and lost in laying out my new blog. I am trying to get the blog to take on the same look and feel as my existing website (http://www.online-running-gear.com). I would like to get the sidebar to fit flush against the right. Through the process of elimination, I figure that it is not cooperating due to padding that has been set in the CSS. I have looked and tested changes for hours upon hours but to no avail. I also put a border around the header and it’s sizing is not right either.

I’d really appreciate any help that anyone could offer on this.

  • It’s probably not the CSS as much as it is the errors on your site. Fix those up first, that will help you to nail down the positioning issue later if it is still there after your code is valid! 🙂

    Good luck,
    Michael.

Thanks for your reply. I cleaned up the errors which were mainly from adding my links from my site to the sidebar, but I’m still having the same problem with the alignment.

That poses another question as well. How do I add my links to the sidebar?

    Thanks,
    Jacquie

Good work, no errors now! Now the CSS tweaking can get the layout adjusted to your liking – you are using the default (Kubrick) theme, which seems to be very difficult to modify.

The Codex is full of information on all-things WordPress, give them a read and familiarize yourself with the programme. Look-up some CSS tutorials on the internet if your not sure about that yet.

    Good luck,
    Michael.

Thanks, I spent 2 days looking through all the codex information and yes it is full of great information and lots of it but I am still having a tough time figuring out what is what in all the CSS for this template. I managed to figure out a bit more last night and seem to have gotten the page to an acceptable design level. I remember when I was building my ecommerce store that I used to put borders in the styles to figure out where the styles were applied to the page and this has helped me some.

Now to work on the side links :->

Figuring out your CSS… maybe this helps:
