I’ve been through both of the sites below and found the php one to be too advanced and w3schools to be simply a list of syntax.

If you’d really like to learn PHP, I highly recommend a book entitled “PHP and MySQL Web Development”, by Luke Welling and Laura Thomson, ISBN #067232525X.
