example it says “enabling this will redirect them to the post they were attached to” if that post is deleted will it also work, will these photo URL stop crawling on google.
Whenever you upload a media in WordPress, WordPress generates a page automatically for this which is called media (attachment) page. The media (attachment) page doesn’t have any content in it except the relevant media files. So, you may want to set
noindexto this. You can setnoindexto the media (attachment) page directly from the Yoast SEO → Titles & Metas → Post Types (tab) → Media (attachment) options. In addition, you can also redirect all the attached media files to its associated posts/pages by enabling the Redirect attachment URLs to parent post URL option directly from the Yoast SEO → Advanced → Permalinks (tab).
Notice that the redirect will only work if the media file is attached to either a post or page. The redirect won’t work for any non-attached media file.
If I set noindex to media, it will also hide all images from google? or it will just noindex to the post which is automatically created when the photo is uploaded?
Setting the
noindexto the Media (attachment) post types will only remove the media (attachment) pages from the post types, not the media files.Okay done, I selected Noindex option: Media (attachment) please check : https://ibb.co/nOY0fm
Hi,
Your set-up is correct. Google will not index the attachment pages BUT still index the actual image urls. Indeed, you can see your image files still getting indexed here.
Thank you but please tell me after clicking the button of NoIndex in Media (attachment), how many days google will take to set it, like when I am searching my blog name, still attachment page shows: allinallnews : https://www.google.co.in/search?q=allinallnews&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=drjwWYrmNanv8wf_-pKACw
Hi,
We are not sure. Google crawls your site on an algorithm. It is up to Google to eventually drop the attachment pages from the index. To resolve the issue we can suggest three actions
A. Resubmit your sitemap to Google. This will encourage Google to then recrawl the sitemap. This guide explains more: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/#google
B. Remove the urls from Google using this tool: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en
C. Contact Google for more information as to when those pages get removed from the SERPs. You may contact Google by making a post on their forums: http://productforums.google.com/forum/?rd=1#!forum/webmasters.
