I don’t remember submitting any usernames or passwords in the development process.
You should have created an administrator account and been given a password during installation.
… send me a new password which it then refuses…
Are you copying and pasting that password or typing it in? I’d paste it, log in, and reset it immediately.
If that doesn’t work login to your web-host’s backend and find the database management tool. Then look at the wp_users table. You should see username and email address used to set up the blog. The password is there too but its hashed and isn’t readable. If that email address doesn’t work, something is broken. You may need to reinstall.
I’ve tried all leas and still am not able to come up with log-in details which WP accepts. So what is the best route now?
what happens when you try this?

and please igf it doesnt work, elaborate — what doesnt work.. does the email come? etc..
I copies and pasted and still get the error message that the log-in failed.
you copy and paste what? you should get a confimation link that you need to load in your browser.
I can tell your frustrated, but youre not helping the cause
Sorry for the typos. Yes I get the lost password answer. this is where I get the on again off again service from WP. When it does recognize the e-mail address offered and sends me either a change password or capability which would work if I could enter the old password (which is what I’m looking for)and/or it sends me a new password. I copy and paste this new password and get the same old error message “wrong user name”. And it offers a new password if I supply an e-mail address. It just accepted the address but when I re-submit it, it says no such address is registered with WP. I know losing the log-in data was my fault but surely WP should have a secondary way of allowing me to identify myself and get on with my installation, other programs do.
I can log in to the cpanel but not the admin page. I used Fantastico for the “amazing 5 minute installation” which started on Wednesday and is now 5 days old and mounting. I got the host company to look up and send me the e-mail address in their file and they also suggested two log-in possibilities…neither worked, but the e-mail address seemed to work. So somewhere in some dark chamber which I don’t know where to find lies a WP generated password, but no user name which is like having the saddle but no horse. So do I delete (how?) and start over or what?
I have been able to sign onto my admin account until now. When I try to log in it says log in failure or invalid password.. I have tried to reset it but it tells me that my email address isn’t registered.
