I seem to have forgotten how to upload an image… at least I am uploading as I have in the past, but just get a “?” mark. But when I click to edit the image, the image appears… except I don’t need to edit it, so I just hit save.

when I post it to a post or a page, I just get an image icon, no image.

I can copy the file URL and paste it into the sidebar and only the alt text appears.

I can insert other images uploaded previously.

I have tried to upload the image through a post — I have click on Media LIbrary left sidebar, uploaded from computer as usual, and the image seems to upload fine, expect no picture, a “?”, except as I mentioned, I want to edit the image, then it shows up.

I am completely baffled. I also check that my image wasn’t corrupt.

    What am I doing wrong!?
    Please help, assistance much appreciated.

  • Check your uploads path in Settings -> Media.

    Hey, thank you.
I did check settings…. what should I be looking for?
What would have changed from last week?

On most WordPress installs, the uploads path input is blank? Is yours? Have you recently enabled anti-hotlinking on your hosting account?

Right, there are so many possibilities where would you start to tell me what changed…! 🙂

Thanks, esmi, you did help me go to the next level and check the directory of the host server. I moved this particular domain as the primary on the account, so right, the path with media settings did indeed need to change.

    I appreciate your quick response!

Ah… Did you follow the instructions in Moving_WordPress when you moved this site?

    No I didn’t enable anti-hotlinking…. but I don’t think I should, should I?

And well, I didn’t think I needed to read the WP instructions, since I thought the tech help was so good with this host server that they walked me through some of the steps I should take within WP after the move…

So I reset WP permalinks by saving as default; then saving back to my previous settings.

I will read through the wp instructions, see what else I missed.
    Thank you again.

    but I don’t think I should, should I?

Absolutely not! It stops WordPress from being able to display your images.

I hope you manage to sort this out. I’m pretty sure it’s an artefact from the site move. If you still have problems, try re-posting (listing all of the steps we’ve checked through) and we’ll have another go at sorting it.
