Latest Posts?

Hi all
I’d like to replace the “Meta” Sidebar entry (left sidebar in my “Dark City 10” theme) with links to the latest entries of every category.
Example output:
<Category 1>
<title>
<Author>
<Date>

<Category 2>
<title>

<date>

etc.

I think I’d have to solve this with the post ID’s and the Category ids. but since I’m completely new to this, I have NO CLUE how to realize it (though I managed to change a lot by altering some of the PHP code, I never even found out how to actually wipe the META bar away.)

Could anyone please write code for this? or does a plugin exist for that?
