    Hi

    Post Thumbnail Editor stopped working for a couple of my sites, I found a solution that caused it to start working again, but wanted to let you know as it seems like a bug.

    Symptoms:

    • The editor appeared to still work. I could crop images and it would save them.
    • However the thumbnail in the media library didn’t change.
    • If I went back into PTE and clicked “thumbnail” the updated thumbnail was there. Even though it wasn’t showing in the media library.
    • If I went into WordPress’ native editing functionality, the thumbnail it displayed was the original thumbnail.
    • I went to a post and inserted an image and selected “thumbnail” size to be inserted. It inserted the OLD thumbnail, not the new one.
    • However the images were correctly updated for any additional image sizes that had been specified with the add_image_size() function. Where one of these images was pulled into a template, the updated cropped image was shown. So the problems only seemed to be with the iamges sizes built into the core of WP.

    I tested this on two different sites with two different themes:
    * Canvas from Woothemes
    * Genesis child theme

    Neither worked. BUT then in an attempt to get data on what was happening, I turned on debug mode. I cropped an image and it worked perfectly. I turned off debug mode, and it kept working fine.

    So on my second site I simply turned on debug mode, saved changes, then turned off debug mode and saved changes. Then I went to crop and image and it worked! The media library now showed the the updated thumbnail. And inserting an image into a post as “thumbnail” size now gave that updated version.

    For both of these sites I had updated to the most recent release of Post Thumbnail Editor. I suspect that in the upgrade something might have stopped working, and turning debug on and off somehow caused it to started working again? Is that possible?

    I hope this helps others, and hopefully helps you find what went wrong, if this is being experienced by others too.

    It seems that for a certain subset of users, Debug mode actually works better for them than the regular mode. I haven’t been able to determine why. Thanks for your report.

    Hi! Can you please tell me, how to eactivate the debug mode? Because my plugin stopped working after 3 Days…

    Thanks in advance!

    Oh… I tested in both modes now… but it doesn’t work… any other ideas?

    Hi Phil. If it doesn’t work at all, try an alternative plugin called “Crop Thumbnails”. One other user found that worked for them. But if that doesn’t work either then it must be something on your server that changed.

    Also, you could open your own thread on this support forum, as the plugin author seems to be pretty good at responding to support requests, and this one is now marked as “resolved” so he won’t be monitoring it.

    Thanks Jodamo!
