  • Have you already decided which payment gateway to use? If so, then you use whichever shopping cart provides that gateway as standard (or at low cost).

Hi, I plan to use PayPal Standard as my payment gateway. I think I will go with WooCommerce as its guaranteed to be ‘mobile friendly’, I will just have to pay for the Australia Post Plugin for WooCommerce.

It’s a shame eCommerce isn’t mobile friendly as it already comes with Australia Post shipping options!

    thanks for your reply 🙂

    Hi @shell10,

‘Mobile friendly-ness’ is probably more of a theme dependency than a cart plugin dependency. I use WPEC and Woo and probably couldn’t say one is better on mobiles than the other. I find WPEC easier to use but that may just be because I’m more familiar with it.

WPEC has more built in features and Woo requires more paid add-ons.

Woo certainly has better emails but to match that in WPEC you can install a free plugin.

WPEC has in-built tracking and in Woo its a paid add-on. If you need tracking and go Woo check that the add-on supports your carrier. We use Star-Track and the Woo add-on doesn’t support them.

Both need paid add-ons to do proper invoices which you’ll need if your GST registered.

    Regards,
    Mike.

    Hi Toshi,

    Thank you for your reply!

It seems WPEC maybe the way to go than considering they are basically the same on mobiles. WPEC also has Australia Post and according to you may be easier to use which is important for me, being a newby and all!

THANK YOU, it’s great to get some unbiased advice from someone who has used both.

    Many thanks Toshi!

    Your welcome.

You should still try out both WPEC and Woo. It doesn’t take much to set them up and add a product or two. As your not used to one already you might find you have a preference after trying them out.

One thing to note is that Woo has better 3rd party developer support. Looking on themeforest for example, selecting WP e-Commerce brings up 11 themes and templates for sale, selecting WooCommerce brings up 462. Thats a significant difference.

    Regards.

Which plugin works with WPEC to make the shop fully mobile?
    Thank you!

    @coralbay
It’s primarily the theme which dictates the responsiveness of the website not plugins.

You need to find a WPEC compatible responsive theme that you like.

I currently use Blanco from 8theme.com and someone else on another topic has said https://colorlib.com/wp/themes/sparkling/ and https://thethemefoundry.com/wordpress-themes/make/ work with WPEC (although I note both those only seem to mention Woocommerce).

Thank you for answering. I’m also using the Blanco theme since 2012.

I’ve contacted 8theme.com with the problem. They have updated Blanco for WPEC to from version 1.0 to 3.5 and are presently working on fixing the issue, as the mobile display, especially the shop, seems to be a problem with the theme. I keep my fingers crossed. Otherwise I’ll have to rebuild the site.
    regards
