Is multisite the right option

I’m trying to setup a gaming blog similar to IGN.com and gamespot.com.

I already have a blog that I have been posting to on my own dedicated server for the last year. I would like to make my blog site a little more socialable. I thought allowing registered users to have their own blog would be a good start. Is multi-site the right option to use, the focus is not on users having their own blog. The main focus is still the main site, the main content me and co-authors post.

Eventually, I would like to also give members their own profiles. They can have their own reviews and make friends etc.

Is it a simple task to switch multisite on and off, incase it doesn’t work out?
