Internal Server Error – Please help

I installed wo via softaculous but when i enter my new login details into the admin screen i just get the following

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@wp.shout-hosting.co.uk and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I havetried to install a few times now and i keep ketting this same error.

The cpanel error log shows:

Try logging in through this login link:

Also you will want to make sure that your .htaccess file has the following code:

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

Since you are getting a 500 error I assuming there is something wrong with the code in that file.

hi there.

im affraid that didnt work 🙁

does mod_securty or suhosin make a difference as both of these are on the server?

You may want to check on mod_security as well. Ask your host to whitelist the mod_sec rule if it may be blocking you.

Also you could create the files that it is saying do not exist.

I have root access to the vps. how would i whitelist the mod_sec rule? (whatshould i enter into the config)?

hi guys

still no joy with this.

The only thing thats chages is that the screen upon login now just says that internet explorer cant display the webpage.

Really stuck now 🙁

SUCCESS!!! The issue was with PHPsuhosin which was causing a conflict.

atleast we found the problem in the end 🙂

That is great news I glad you finally found a solution to your issue. If it was suPHP or a PHPsu host then you will want to double check and make sure your permissions are okay. Normally folders that are 777 and files that are 666 permissions are a security risks on suPHP due to the fact that anyone can access and edit the folder or file. suPHP will block files with these permissions. They normally recommend folders have permissions of 755 and files to have permissions of 644.
