insufficent permissions

This is my first attempt at installing wordpress. My hosting company offers WordPress as free web application. I have installed the application and I see is is live.
however when I log on to edit I get the following message:

“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

Is this a wordpress issue or a hosting issue?

any suggestion on what I should do to resolve this would be gratefully accepted.
