• I have a few websites in separate folders that I made ages ago using Microsoft Frontpage / Dreamweaver. I use: http://www.1and1.co.uk
If I install word press and activate MySQL will it mess up my other websites? Or do I get the option to just install it in one dedicated folder?
I am not sure how it works and don’t want to mess up my other sites, even if they are all backed up.
    Cheers,
    Rupert

  • Suggest that you create some sub-domains at your website, like “trial.yoursite.com” or “testwp.website.net” and so on, give each of them their own directory. Experiment with creating your new websites in these, then when you want to replace your old websites you go through the “Moving WordPress” procedures or use the plugin called “DUPLICATOR”.
You are correct in that a given website or directory cannot share different websites.

You will have to point your new domain to that particular folder where you will install WordPress. It will certainly mess up if you install wordpress in the same folder where there is an existing website. So be careful.

When you set up wordpress, you will also setup a new database. In your wp-config file should point to the right database that you setup.

    Hi,

    0. Create a new database with your 1and1 admin interface.

    1. Create a new directory in your 1and1’s folders tree, let’s call it “wordpress”

    2. Unzip the WordPress package in the previous directory

    3. Domain Name configuration
3.a If you have a domain name which point to your 1and1’s root folders tree, then you will be able to access your new WordPRess website thru http://<YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME>/wordpress

3.b If not, you can access your WordPress website thru the 1and1 URL. At your inscription at 1and1 you should get an email with a 1and1 url. Something like sXXXXXXXXXXX.onlinehome.co.uk ?
You will be able to access your new WordPress website at http://<sXXXXXXXX.onlinehome.co.uk>/wordpress

3.c You can to point a new domain or a subdomain to this directory. You will be able to access your new WordPress website at http://<MY_SUBDOMAIN>/wordpress

    4. Then follow the installation process.

    5. Enjoy! 🙂

I have the issue sort of. During my absence our site was transferred to Interserver.net using WordPress. I am less then knowledgeable as I too designed it using frontpage. I receive a 404 not found when adding /WP to our sites URL. Is there a WordPress for dummies to get me going? I just need to update some of the pages.
    thanks, Bill

PS, I have ZERO software experience.

Acornacres you can check out ithemes guide for some wordpress vid tutorials https://ithemes.com/tutorial/category/wordpress-101/

@acornacres — please create your own thread for this issue instead of posting in an existing, unrelated discussion.
