Same problem here only I want it in Czech. Downloaded it from the Simple Press localisation website, uploaded it to sp-resources/forum-language/simple-press but it doesn’t work. I have the language set to cs_CZ in the wp-config.php file so that can’t be the problem. Anyone? Please.
i have the same issue but can’t solve it. any idea why is isn’t changing the language ?
i think this language files is not for 5 version.
and also where is the original po files in this thing ? can’t find them.

i want to translate my simple:press forum in norwegian language..
i find the .mo file from simple:press translate site

and uploaded that to language folders all in themes plugins and simplepress folders. and i changes the wplang to nb_NO but nothing happens. no translation performed…
i solve the problem you can try too.
do the names like this:
sp-no.po change it to sp-nb_NO.po
no I have already tried all this .
changing filenames and everything ..
but it is not working ..
is the norwegian mo file i am getting from translation site doesn’t work with simplepress 5.2.6 ??
or whts the problem here…

when i download translation files the names was sp-tr.po and i change them like my wp’s language like this: sp-tr_TR.po and same in .mo it is worked.
there is no soluiton in web i search it for a week.
the file locations has to be like this:
for front end and admin translation files: wp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/simple-press
for theme translations: wp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/sp-themes
for plugin translations: inwp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/sp-plugins
just you have to change file name when you download them.

from here i export mo file and put that in the same folders.
and changed the name to sp-nb_NO.mo for norwegian
and then in wp-config.php i defined wplang to nb_NO for norwegian.
but it is not working.
when i export .po file for this it says that file is read only and can’t be edited using poedit as read only. thts why i export mo file from the localization website. Not working

change their name like this:
spDefault-nb_NO.po
spDefault-nb_NO.mo
and put this files into this location:
wp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/sp-themes
and do couple of times F5. goog luck!
