Dreamweaver thinks it is supposed to edit your php files. I rabidly hate Dreamweaver but you can use it to edit them if you want. It is your choice. All you really need is a txt editor but a code editor with syntax highlighting makes it a lot easier.
i have renamed the file to – wpconfig.php in my computer.
That should be wp-config.php
My SQL database (host 1&1) has created 4 database instead of one — dunno why??
Maybe they give you four by default. I don’t know. Anyway, you only need one. Just pick one and use it.
You can probably upload WordPress all at once. Give that a try.
Thanks for a prompt reply. Yes i want to say good bye to dreamweaver now (hopefully). In my database page (1&1 host) there is this button “My php admin” …do i need to use this button as the instruction says using “MySQL database” OR “Myphp admin” for creating password?
Thanks in advance!!
I believe you mean “PhpMyAdmin”. That is a web based GUI to your MySQL databases. You already have 4 databases per your first post. I don’t know if you user/passwords for those databases but you probably do. You can use PhpMyAdmin to create usernames and passwords though.
Also, if you are on Windows there is a code editor called PSPad that I really like
Hello learned friends,
I am in a proces of downloading Word press and for a starter like me it is a herculean task……..
Today I opened wp-config.php with a text editor and put in the needful information and then saved it.
All the W.Press files were uploaded to my host (1&1)in a file(lets say “TONY”).
At present i havn’t purchased a domain name for this website i plan to make so i havnt pointed a domain name to “TONY” in my hosting area(1&1).
So now i am in a fix how to Run and Install script? Please help!!
So now i am in a fix how to Run and Install script? Please help!!
In what way are you in a fix?
Why do you say you uploaded in a file? You should have a whole bunch of files, not just one.
Sorry s_ha_dum…. i should have said – Folder, there are 20 odd files which is in a folder called “TONY”. Now as per instructions :–
“”Step 5: Run the Install Script
Point a web browser to start the installation script.
■ If you placed the WordPress files in the root directory, you should visit: http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php
■ If you placed the WordPress files in a subdirectory called blog, for example, you should visit: http://example.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php
Setup configuration file
If WordPress can’t find the wp-config.php file, it will tell you and offer to try to create and edit the file itself. (You can do also do this directly by loading wp-admin/setup-config.php in your web browser.) WordPress will ask you the database details and write them to a new wp-config.php file. If this works, you can go ahead with the installation; otherwise, go back and create, edit, and upload the wp-config.php file yourself (step 3)……””

You open a web browser and type the URL into the address field, just as the instructions say.
http://<your-site-name-or-IP-address/wp-admin/install.php
It is just like visiting any other website.

BUt at the moment i do not have a url as i have yet to buy a domain name.
But you do have an IP address.
You mean my personal (house) IP address??like 123.43.56.56 something like that?? Hey how will it work? Site name i can understand but IP address? Amazing!!!!!
If i use IP address then will i have to do it again with my site name? I think i prefer site name, i gotta buy a domain name and come back to you. Cheers.
You mean my personal (house) IP address?
No. You have a host, just no domain name. You can usually get into a hosted account via an IP address, assigned by your host.
