Sorry, I have know idea of how to install or upload plugins. I’ve read the step by step guides but they say something like upload to public_html/wp-content/plugins which I of course can’t do. I installed filezilla but didn’t get any directions how to use that either. If anyone can walk me through this or point me in the direction of a detailed guide for total beginners I’d be much indebted. Thanks

  • Probably your host gave you FTP information, an address, a login and a password. Using Filezilla (check their site for instructions) you can connect to your FTP server and transfer files from your harddrive to your server. When you put the files at the right place (wp-content/plugins), in your WP admin under “plugins” you will find a new, inactive plugin that you can activate. That’s it and that’s that.

This is all I can tell you. You’ll have to find those address, login and password yourself and learn to use Filezilla.

Here is a couple of suggestions for you.
    1) Go to your CPanel and select file manager. In the window that opens up you will the upload file option which you can use to upload your files (make sure you are in the correct folder i.e public_html/wp-content/plugins) this will make it easier for you.
    2) Go here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-easy-uploader/ and get yourself this wp plug in (use the above methode to upload it) Once uploaded and activated you will be able to do all your uploads via your admin dashboard.

Once again be sure to upload your files to the correct location, making extra sure that the requierd file is not nested inside the folder you are uploading.

    Hope this helps, good luck
