    look for this CSS element in your theme’s style css:

    #access a {

    In this element play with the following properties to increase the spacing:

    padding-left:10px;
padding-right:10px;

    thank so much! would you happen to know how to make the menu option Home…all caps “HOME” ??

    If your theme supports custum menu, then you can add/change/delete menu-items in Admin – Appearance – Menus

    There, you can also find out if your theme supports custom menu or not.

    Just to let you know that the default Twenty Ten theme (that comes with WP 3) supports custom menus.
