incomplete required fields generating error 404 page

    I am currently using WordPress 4.7.2 running The Deluxe theme. I have a problem that has shown up since I updated FS contact form to version 4.0.49.

    When users leave a required field blank or the CAPTCHA field is incorrect instead of having fields highlighted for correction the users get the “error 404-not found” page.

    The Deluxe theme is pretty old. Is that the problem? Or is there some setting that needs to be changed in FS contact form settings that needs to be reset since I updated the plugin?

    Hi, since the form was working prior to the update and you mentioned that your theme is old. Can you carry out a test. Can you test one of WordPress default themes like Twenty Fifteen or Sixteen?

    OK…I tried the 2016 them but I got a similar error. I got a Oops page not found instead of the 404 error.

    What can I try next?

    I created a new form and when data for required fields was not entered I got a prompt to fix it rather than the 404 screen.

    Hi, that is good news. That tells me that your other form had an issue. Is that correct?

    I can either re-create the form completely or try and copy the old form fields into a new form. I have not figured out how to copy the fields over yet. The problem is not exactly solved. this is just a work around.

    How do I copy the fields into a new form?

    Have you checked Copy Settings under Tools tab?

    A URL to your form with the problem would have been helpful. Is it a windows server? Have you changed the redirect URL settings on the advanced tab?

    After experimenting I found that while the form would work with a new page I created the form would not work with the existing page that was created over 5 years ago in a much earlier version of WordPress.

    I copied the content of the old page on to a new page that I created and the form worked correctly when a required field was not completed. No 404 errors.
