Hi @elames,
Sorry for any confusion here. We are a different plugin than the directory one on Code Canyon. But looking at your site, I believe you have ours installed. 🙂
WP migration (either via XML or SQL) doesn’t usually move our content properly. We do have a migration plugin to move BD from one site to another. It transfers everything–categories, listings and settings.
Please find the module linked below. Installation instructions as well.
DOWNLOAD HERE: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/special/business-directory-migrate.zip
To install the module, upload the attached file as a plugin under Plugins->Add New, click Upload and then find this ZIP on your local computer. Activate the plugin when you’re done to complete the process.
You need to do this on both source and target sites. Both sites must have the SAME version of WP and the SAME version of BD installed for this to work correctly.
Documentation is here: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/docs/#migrate
But if you’re just trying to upgrade the old site with a theme, that should work as well.
Business Directory Plugin will work with any well-written, WP 4.x compliant theme. Generally speaking, paid themes tend to be higher quality than free ones, so we don’t recommend those.
Whatever theme you pick, we recommend using the Theme Check plugin (available for free on WordPress.org) to validate how WordPress-compliant that theme actually is. The more errors and warnings you see on the theme when you run that check, the worse the theme is. You can read more about it here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-check/
(This plugin was developed by WP Core developers to validate their own default themes and is highly respected in the theme community)
In general, we like WooThemes as a solid company with great products and support. You can check them out here: http://woothemes.com Or StudioPress: http://studiopress.com
