• Hi,

Excuse me for my english, i’m Italian.

I’ve a problem with wordpress (3.2.1 version) on my website. In a moment – without doing any code change or something – the CMS cancelled ALL of my pages and articles.

Ok, it can happen, i suppose. So i tried to import a november backup (.xml) and wordpress gave me this message:

Sorry, there has been an error.
The file does not exist, please try again.

So i tought: maybe the backup went wrong. And i tried with an older backup, made in september. Same story.

At least, i said: Ok, something’s gone bad in my wordpress. So i canceled it from my site, uploading a site backup of november. After this, i tried with the xml backup, but… same story.

    Can you help me?

My site (if you need): http://www.mauriziovicedomini.heliohost.org

    Thanks,

    Maurizio

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I tried now all of your solutions, but no one worked 🙁

There is possibility that the problem is not the importer, but the exporter?
I mean… if the exporter gave me two file (september and november backups) corrupted, we’re searchin’ the problem in the wrong tool.

I admit that i don’t know how xml work, so can’t look for errors in them.

    Any ideas?

Do you have any other backups?

As i wrote, i have 2 xml backups (september and november) and a november site backup.

I didn’t think that was necessary to take other backups xD

These are .xml expert files – not database backups, yes? Can you publish a fresh post?

Ehm.. I’m not in these things xD I have exported pages and articles with WordPress tool, and i get .xml files. This is all i know xD

Excuse me, what’s a “fresh post”? What i have to do?

    Sorry for noobing xD

Try creating & publishing a post via WordPress.

    mmh… strange.

When i try to publish a post i don’t have the “publish” button, but the “send to revision” one.

And when i click on it, it gave me the error:

“Non si dispone del permesso per modificare questo articolo.”

That in english is “You don’t have the permission to edit this article”.

    What it means?

Something is wrong within the install. Try re-installing but this time, see if you can publish a post before you try importing any content.

I uploaded my site backup but i have the same error message (i tried to post without charging any xml).

How is it possible that my backup gave me the same error? When i made it, i worked good.

Ps. A particular i’ve remembered. When i uploaded my site backup for the first time (the situation in the first post of this topic) when i entered my wordpress panel (in Italian is Bacheca, i don’t know how is it in english) i had a message that said something like “we have to upgrade database. Click ok” and the only thing i could do was to click ok.

Have i to try to cancel all and upload a “new” wordpress, not my backup?

    I uploaded my site backup

No. Re-install without uploading any backups.

Sorry for posting so late, i’ve had problem with internet 🙂

Anyway, i tried to re-install WordPress but my site didn’t see the files, so i canceled all in my site and all in my database, and now it works. I success to import my articles.

    Thanks, really 🙂

    And happy holidays ^^
