So I am new to WP and installed it onto a subdirectory of my domain to build/test a site before going live.

After playing a while I noticed no images loading on the back end, just looks like a broken link. Same on the front end too. I didn’t worry since the site is not live and trawled the net for answers. Its seems pretty common, however, Iv not read a fix as yet.

Iv played with my folder permissions, checked my media folder is on the correct path, even loaded different versions, (4.0 / 4.1 ) and still no luck. Iv been reading up on this for 5 hours now and am exhausted.

This seems like a pretty big deal since images are quite an important part of a site.

Anyone have any ideas, what it could be. Im thinking it could be something set on my cPanel that could be interfering since different versions should not have the same problems.

In any event it is not giving me much confidence to build my site on the WP platform.

    Thanks in advance

    Solved it myself.

Security software on the cPanel called “Hot Link Protection” was enabled.

Its used to block others from linking to your images and stealing your bandwidth.

6 hours of my life to figure this out.

Time for a straight Jamesons to take the edge off…
