It seems like there is some kind of linking protection or redirection on my site for images when the request doesn’t come for an active session on the site. As an example, this post has an image that is displayed in the article:
    http://www.white-tiger-martialarts.com/why-group-form-fails-2/

The image in question is http://white-tiger-martialarts.com/wp-content/uploads/20160102_121106-300×169.jpg

While I can see it within the article page, the request to view the image directly. The file exists, but the request shows a “HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently” redirection which results in a “Error 404: Page Not Found” message. The same problem happens for all my articles, especially for the feature image that is set in the og:image meta tag.

How can I make these URLs work so my images can appear when sharing on social media?

From what you’re describing, it sounds like you have hotlinking protection enabled for your site. You may either be using a security plugin that provides hotlinking protection, a purpose-built plugin for hotlinking protection, or hotlinking protection is enabled in your web-hosting control panel. Being able to directly browse to an image is related to, but independent of hotlinking protection, and may be enabled separately. You’ll probably want to whitelist your social media domains so that they can hotlink to images and test it. If it still doesn’t work, you can enable direct access to images too.

So, I have not installed any hotlinking protection. What security plugin might affect this? I’ll check with my hosting to see if its on their end. The whielisting makes sense but I don’t know what plugin or setting to do it from.

    Hotlink issues with the host.
    Fixed.
    Thanks.
