• Hi all, I am having a frustrating problem when trying to replace an image file in the Media Library with a new version but same filename. Even if I first delete the original file from the Library when I upload the new version with the same filename WordPress seems to show the original file once again not the new one. I cant figure out why this is happening so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance

    Steven

  • do you have a caching plugin enabled? or CDN like Cloudflare Activated?

    try disabling them all.

Spoke too soon this is still happening!
To recap: I have uploaded a set of images to wordpress but have since made an edit (in photoshop) to the images. When I upload the new batch of images which have the same filename as previously, the original image re-appears (if deleted) or is not overwritten by the new file. WordPress does not give me the option to change the filename on upload nor does it change it automatically by adding a digit etc. as I believe it should. I have deleted / deactivated plugins but this is still happening. If I change the filename prior to upload it works fine.

I have a horrible feeling that I am missing something very obvious and wasting hours trying to figure this out! Help please

if you reupload xyz.jpg twice, 2nd image is renamed to xyz1.jpg.

are you trying with all plugins and cloudflare disabled? maybe something is enabled on webhost, many host are providing cache today, which is quite useful but can be frustrating in such cases.

try changing names of file a little and see if it still picks up old deleted image and name.
