Ok, I had lunch, went deeper into in posts and found that unchecking descriptions gives me the behavior I was expecting. Apparently I don’t care about descriptions as layout looks good.
Only remaining issue is shortcode doesn’t seem to like my categories.
Hi mcracco,
I’m sorry for the delayed response. My paying job has been hectic lately!
Glad you got the first half of your question resolved 🙂 For the second part, when you say it “spins,” what does that mean? Nothing in DG “spins” so I’m wondering if some other plugin is doing something it shouldn’t? If you can point me to a gallery where the issue is present I can give a better answer.

Sorry, I didn’t mean ‘spins’ literally.
If I put the shortcode [dg id=-1 category=it] into a page I get the Media Library icon with a sliding progress bar under it but no results are ever returned (spins). Not a huge deal as I have published my pages with individual shortcodes but it would have been easier to use category shortcodes.
Since this is an Intranet I can’t point you to a viewable page.
Thanks.
Huh. When you say you get a progress bar, are you referencing the visual editor or the actual page? The former might have a progress bar, but the latter definitely shouldn’t and still suggests some other plugin doing something.

hi there.
yes the progress bar is that of the rich text editor inside the post. it doesnt generate the icons as seen in the video. this may be due to server not reading the files, server trying to generate thumbnails (with or without thumbnail generation option ticked) or just because of the file size..
the single column is not honoring the column size set in options or gallery creation dialog when descriptions are enabled. the div has 100% width so it takes up all the space, thus creating a single column. no description, no 100% and it behaves as expected (divs 24% for 4 columns).
__EDIT i just read carefully the options and it says “The number of columns to display **when not rendering descriptions**” so it is indeed the intended behavior.. kind of odd since the user probably expects 4 columns even with the descriptions 🙂
i would like to see a list style option– so ill [try to] hack some css and if it works then ill share it so you may include it in future release 🙂

Just to close out this issue, the resolution for the broken progress bar was addressed here.
Regarding the columns & descriptions, I completely agree that the current limitation is not ideal. We’ve actually got some CSS floating around somewhere (can’t get my hands on it at this very moment) that was intended to be integrated into DG, but that just has not yet happened. On the todo list! 🙂
