  • I am suddenly having a similar problem: I get an “HTTP error” whenever I try to upload a PDF file I need to link to one of my site pages.

The PDF file is 14.5 MB. I’ve created the file twice and it happened with both versions. It’s never happened with any other file, and I’m still able to upload other files successfully, such as JPEGs and Word docs.

I deleted several old large docs from my Library in case I was low on available storage space, but it didn’t help.

The only change I’ve made to my WordPress system recently is upgrading to version 3.9.2. No recent plugin upgrades since this started.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE respond with clear directions in plain English, I’m not a tech person and need any technical directions spelled out clearly and explicitly. I’m very hesitant to open the hood, I usually do more harm than good, but I need this working.

On a side note, I’d be eternally grateful if WordPress could create slightly-more-edifying error messages than “HTTP error,” which leaves me with no indication of the problem or how to fix it.

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy

@andysaks – PDF is not an image file and will not be uploaded into NextGEN Gallery.

@pzoli1988 – Can you provide a link to your site? There may be something in the page source that may offer some clues to what may be going on.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.

    Hi Cais,

    Thanks for the prompt response.

I’m not sure I understand. I’ve uploaded a dozen or more PDF files over the past 18 months into my Media Library, many larger than this one, with no problem. I’ve seen WordPress support pages where this practice is instructed for people uploading PDFs, PowerPoint decks and other non-graphic files.

If I’m uploading them in the wrong place or with the wrong procedure, please advise on how to do it correctly.

    Thanks!

    Hi Cais,

    here is the website: http://kijevska.pzoli.eu/

I made another wordpress site, i doesn’t do anything with it, just activate the nextgen gallery, and I had the same problem. I contacted the support of my hosting, but they couldn’t help me, they doesn’t know what can be the problem.

@andysaks – NextGEN Gallery specifically only supports common image file types (and zip files of them) … we do not support uploading PDF files into NextGEN Gallery. If you are having issues uploading PDF files into the Media Library I am not sure what to suggest in this case.

@pzoli1988 – I’m not seeing any significant issues, have you checked for plugin conflicts on your site?

    – Cais.

    Hi Cais,

Yes, I’m specifically dealing with uploading PDFs into the Media Library, as I’ve done many times before, as WordPress instructs.

When I use the “Add New” function in the Media Library, I get this error message instead after uploading:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I was hoping a weekend away would magically cure it, but no such luck.

I need some help here. Who can I ask? Where should I look? I can’t leave it like this.

    Thanks,

    Andy

@andysaks – Perhaps I am missing something in this topic, are you saying this is related to NextGEN Gallery?

I’m not having any issues whatsoever with uploading PDF files into the WordPress Media Library, nor am I having any issues linking to them either.

    – Cais.

It is not, it’s related only to the Media Library, and I just realized this thread is for NextGen gallery only.

    Damn. Thanks anyway.

    @andysaks – No worries.

Good luck with sorting it out. I wish I had more to suggest for this.

@cais – I found the problem. I had problem with URL address of web page. I fixed it and now it’s working perfect. 🙂

@cairs – I’ve another problem 🙁 If I want to attach gallery to post I got a message: No input file specified. What can be the problem, don’t you know?

Sorry for this meaningless post, WordPress won’t let me unsubscribe from this thread unless I post something.

@andysaks – Ugh … sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

@pzoli1988 – This sounds like a different issue, I would suggest trying the Reset Option and then clearing the image cache to see if this sorts out the issue. Otherwise it might be best to start a new topic so we can troubleshoot this specifically.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
