.htaccess help

I wish to block a certain IP address range on accessing my website. How do I do that on wordpress. I was able to locate the .htaccess file using ftp. I replaced it with an htaccess file which I used before on my html website, but it did not work 🙁 How do I fix it?

I use windows and my host is godaddy.
